Why should you choose an English Golden Retriever?
A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that the only difference between an English Golden Retriever and an American is color. If this was true, breeders would just choose light colored American Goldens and breed them with other light-colored dogs...they wouldn't go through the trouble of having them imported from overseas.

English Goldens are generally more even-tempered from birth. They seem mature even as puppies. They aren't crazy hyper 24/7. They are VERY smart and learn SO quick! I, personally, taught Ellie to sit in 10 minutes...and she still knows it without any further work! They are friendly, love children, have a gentle spirit, and are very smart. Some American Goldens have some of these characteristics...but as puppies they are more rambunctious. |

English Goldens have less skin problems, fewer hereditary defects, and HALF of the amount of risk for cancer than American Goldens. This is due to the fact that European standards are higher than AKC's standards and they have to pass a certain amount of health tests before they can even be bred. This ensures that every dog on the pedigree of the puppy is 100% healthy in every way. American pedigrees are hit and miss, and some breeders don't do ANY health testing before breeding. This results in the health problems we see in the Americn Goldens today.
English Goldens will cost you less money in the long run because you won't be putting thousands of dollars into them in the later years of their life to pay veterinary bills. |

The English Golden has a very different look than an American Golden. They have a straighter top line, bigger bone structure, shorter legs, blockier head, shorter muzzle, eyes are more rounded, and generally are lighter in color.
The English Cream Golden Retriever will stand out in a crowd of Goldens for its beauty, conformation and the rare cream color of its coat.

Not all American Goldens are Bad |
In saying all of this, we are not putting down the American Golden, because there are some amazing American Goldens out there that responsible breeders have taken the time to produce (we feel like our Americans fit in this category).
Our American Goldens come from Champion, health-tested lines and are healthy to the best of our knowledge. Our past litters haven't had any health problems that have been reported to us. |
